Getaway Gelding Completes A Hat Trick Of Wins

Danny Whizzbang (6g Getaway - Lakil Princess, by Bering) completed a hat trick of wins when taking the Novices’ Hurdle at Exeter on Tuesday.

Harry Cobden, who rode the bay to win his hurdle debut in November, took the ride once again, but this time made all the running. Asserting from the second last, he was ridden out to beat Truckin Away (Getaway) by five lengths, with all of 21 lengths back to their nearest rival.

Nicholls’ assistant Harry Derham commented after the win, “Danny Whizzbang is a big, scopey horse who we will not see the best of until he goes chasing next season. He could have another run over hurdles this spring but it would not be a worry if he didn't.”

Now owned by Mrs Angela Tincknell, Danny Whizzbang was purchased by Tom Malone for €115,000 at the Goffs Punchestown Sale following his point-to-point maiden win for Colin Bowe. Bred by Minch Bloodstock, he cost €40,000 as a store and is a half-brother to Listed winner Lastbutnotleast (Flemensfirth). Their five-year-old half-brother Mr Grey Sky (Fame And Glory) is currently unbeaten in two bumpers.
