Auchterarder (Gleneagles) winning at Beverley

Gleneagles Extends Unbeaten Record At Stud

Freshman sire Gleneagles now boasts two winners from as many runners, after his daughter Auchterarder (2f Gleneagles - Crossover, by Cape Cross) made a successful debut at Beverley on Tuesday.

The Mark Johnston-trained filly made all of the running in the five furlong contest, going clear over a furlong from home and stayed on strongly under PJ McDonald to score by two and a half lengths. The favourite Quiet Place, narrowly beaten first time out last month, finished second to add to the winner’s appeal, and there were a further three lengths back to the third horse.

Auchterarder races in the colours of Kingsley Racing and is a half-sister to the highly-rated Enlace, whom Johnston also trained. She was bred by Newstead Breeding out of Listed winner Crossover, herself a half-sister to five Stakes performers.

Gleneagles’ first winner, and sole other runner, was another successful newcomer, in the shape of Mrs Fitri Hay’s homebred Highland Chief. Gleneagles himself debuted in June and won four times as a juvenile, earning Group 1 glory in the Vincent O’Brien National Stakes. He went on to win his first three starts the following season, landing both the English and Irish 2,000 Guineas, as well as the St. James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot. The son of Galileo commands €30,000 at Coolmore Stud this season.
