Broughshane (Mahler) Makes A Winning Debut At Kirkistown

Impressive Son Of Mahler Sells For Six Figure Sum

Broughshane (4g Mahler - Shuil Milan, by Milan) rewarded connections with a fine return at the Tattersalls Cheltenham Sale on Thursday, when selling to Jonjo O’Neill for £150,000.

The Gerald Quinn-trained bay looked the likely winner approaching the straight at Kirkistown in February and went on to win his debut by eight lengths under Noel McParlan.

Owned by PJ McBurney and bred by Michael Murphy, Broughshane is a half-brother to Grade 3 performer Bold Enough.

Earlier in the day at Hexham, Fringill Duke (5g Mahler - Credo Star, by Presenting) maintained an upward curve by winning the two mile Novices’ Hurdle in good style under Sean Quinlan.

Second to a Listed winner last time out, he backed up that run with a six and a half length success from Minelladestination (Flemensfirth). Trained by Jedd O’Keeffe for Caron and Paul Chapman, the Cathal Ennis-bred chesnut made a winning debut in a bumper last season.
