Improving Son Of Sioux Nation Gets Off The Mark

William Dewhirst (3g Sioux Nation - Two Pass, by Mtoto) took another step forward on Thursday to run out a commanding winner of the six furlong maiden at Thirsk.

A promising fourth on debut, Ben Haslam’s charge was beaten just a nose next time out and was sent off favourite to go one better on Thursday. Racing prominently under Paul Mulrennan, the bay was last off the bridle and was pushed to assert two furlongs from home. Ridden clear a furlong later, he kept on well to win by two lengths and three quarters.

Bred by Sumerhill and Camas Park, William Dewhurst is closely related to Group performer Thank You Next (No Nay Never). He continues a fine start to the season for Sioux Nation, who is responsible for four Stakes winners so far this year, bringing his total to seven. One of those Stakes winners, Matilda Picotte (Sioux Nation) produced a fantastic front-running performance to finish third in the Group 1 1,000 Guineas last weekend.
