Juulstone Another Impressive Winner For American Pharoah
Juulstone (3c American Pharoah x Hessonite, by Freud) became the latest impressive winner for Champion Freshman Sire American Pharoah on Saturday when breaking his maiden at Gulfstream Park.
Racing over 1 1/8 miles on turf, Juulstone wasn’t in a big hurry when sitting in midpack. The colt looked to be in trouble as the field entered the far turn with Edgard Zayas desperately searching for a hole for his mount. Once it opened, Juulstone was in the lead in only a matter of strides. He pulled away to win by 2¾ lengths for trainer Shug McGaughey and owner-breeder Dattt Stable.
The 33rd winner for American Pharoah, Juulstone is the second foal out of Grade III winner Hessonite. Hessonite isn’t the only successful member with Hessonite’s half-sisters the dams of New Zealand One Thousand Guineas winner King’s Rose and New Zealand Champion 2-Year-Old Anabandana.
Juulstone also has a yearling half-sister by American Pharoah’s studmate Uncle Mo.
Living up to his reputation on the track, American Pharoah has already proven to be an exciting sire with six stakes winners and 15 stakes horses led by Grade II Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint winner Four Wheel Drive.
