New G2 Winner for American Pharoah

Talented colt Forbidden Kingdom (3c American Pharoah x Just Louise, by Five Star Day) showed abundant speed to lead all the way and win the $200,000 Group II San Vincente Stakes (7f) at Santa Anita on Saturday.

Trained by Richard Mandella, Forbidden Kingdom was fast away and surged straight to the lead where he was never seriously challenged and won by two and a quarter lengths.

“He’s as quick as they come,” said Richard Mandella, who will target the GII San Felipe Stakes on March 5 with Forbidden Kingdom.

“In his last race, he tore a piece of his foot off [after stumbling at the start] and then we had a quarter crack. We had to fix it up and it is good and we hope it stays good. We’ll have to try two turns down the road here. He’s gotten better about everything. He was so professional today, everything went well. He used to get a little antsy in the gate. He’s stumbled a few times.”

With two wins and two placings from four starts and $194,000 in prizemoney, Forbidden Kingdom was a $300,000 Fasig Tipton Kentucky Select Sale purchase and runs for My Racehorse and Spendthrift Farm.

The 24th stakes-winner worldwide for American Pharoah, he is the best of three winners from Group III winner Just Louise.

American Pharoah has 12 entries for the upcoming Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
