Pair Of Maiden Hurdle Winners For Getaway

Geezer Rockstar (5g Getaway – Rock’s Field, by Presenting) produced a game performance to win Sunday’s maiden hurdle at Ascot.

A debut bumper winner last season, Harry Fry’s charge finished fourth on his hurdle bow, before being unsuited by heavy ground next time out. Partnered by Jonathan Burke at Ascot, the chesnut raced prominently for much of the way and led after the second last. Headed at the final flight, he dug deep to regain the advantage and was ridden out to win by a length.

Bred by the Culloty family, Geezer Rockstar completed the first leg of a quickfire double for Grange Stud sire Getaway, with Lazer Wolf (6g Getaway – Squaw Valley, by Saddlers Hall) winning another maiden hurdle at Limerick.

The Gavin Cromwell-trained gelding was sent off favourite following four placed efforts over hurdles and chased the leader for much of the way under Keith Donoghue. Leading from three out, he was shaken up after the next and was pushed out to score by a length and three quarters, with a 30 length gap back to the third.

Sunday marked a deserved win for Lazer Wolf, who also plaved in a bumper and on both his starts in point-to-points for Tom Keating. The promising gelding was bred by Pat Gavin.
