Spades Are Trumps (Yeats) Wins The Ulster National at Down Royal

Perfect Performance By Son Of Yeats In Ulster National

Spades Are Trumps (9g Yeats - Sway, by Califet) added to a fine week for Gavin Cromwell when running out an impressive winner of the Ulster National on Sunday.

The JP McManus-owned bay was sent off second favourite for the Downpatrick feature and jumped well throughout under Mark McDonagh. Cruising into contention with three fences left to jump, he leapt into the lead at the last and needed little encouragement to win by six lengths.

“A great week!” the winning ridder said after the race. “He just took to the course, he travelled well and enjoyed being in and out.”

Bred by Mrs Noreen McManus, Spades Are Trumps is a full-brother to four-time winner Ilikedwayurthinkin (Yeats) and closely related to smart performer Limerick Lace (Walk In The Park).
