Whatsnotoknow Wins His Maiden Hurdle At Thurles

Progressive Son Of Mahler Captures Maiden Hurdle

Whatsnotoknow (5g Mahler - Whos To Know, by Bravefoot) followed up on a promising run last time out to justify favoritism in Thursday’s two mile maiden hurdle at Thurles.

A close second over course and distance in January, the Mouse Morris-trained bay faced 17 rivals on his latest start. Rachael Blackmore rode him close to the pace, improving to lead from the third last hurdle and was ridden clear from the following flight. Keeping on well under pressure, he scored by three and a quarter lengths on the line, the second finishing 15 lengths clear of the third.

Speaking after the race, the winning trainer said, “He had a cracking run in the Landrover Bumper at Punchestown and he hadn't run a bad race. He'll make a nice chaser.”

As mentioned by Morris, Whatsnotoknow finished second in the valuable bumper in April and only finished outside the first four on one of his seven starts. Owned by RA Scott and bred by Redmond Berry, the son of Mahler is out of a winning half-sister to useful hurdler Bambootcha.
