Mummy Derry (Yeats) Wins The Mares Bumper At Punchestown

Promising Daughter Of Yeats Lands Bumper For Mullins

Tuesday saw the well-related Mummy Derry (4f Yeats – In The Habit, by Duke Of Marmalade) justify short-priced favouritism in the mares’ bumper at Punchestown.

The Willie Mullins-trained mare shaped like a smart type when finishing second to a more experienced rival at Galway, and that winner boosted the form when following up next time out. Reunited with Patrick Mullins on her second start, she raced prominently throughout and was ridden approaching the final furlong. She kept on well to beat another well-supported mare by two lengths.

Speaking after the race, the winning rider said: “We might try and get some black type in bumpers this season and maybe go jumping next season.”

Owned by Paul Byrne and bred by Mrs Noreen McManus, Mummy Derry is a half-sister to dual Grade 1 winner Spillane’s Tower (Walk In The Park).
