Shahama Stays Undefeated in G3 UAE Oaks

Lookin At Lucky’s superstar Munnings half-sister Shahama (3f Munnings x Private Feeling, by Belong to Me) took her record to a perfect 4-from-4 with a victory in Friday’s Grade III UAE Oaks.

The 9 ½ furlong dirt race saw the flashy 3-year-old break a step slow to race a few lengths behind the rest of the field as Adrie de Vries let her get into a comfortable stride. Down the backstretch, Shahama joined the field with Cupid’s stakes-placed Minwah setting the pace.

With four furlongs left to move, Shahama started unfurling her powerful stride to pull up next to the leaders. With a furlong and a half, de Vries asked her to extend just a bit and she easily complied to win by two lengths with Minwah in third.

The KHK Racing-owned Shahama has won her four career starts by 17 ¼ lengths under the direction of Fawzi Nass with de Vries on for each start. Nass purchased the filly for $425,000 last year at the OBS Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds In Training from Eddie Woods.

Bred by SF Bloodstock, the Munnings daughter is out of top broodmare Private Feeling, who has produced three graded stakes winners from six runners. Led by dual champion Lookin At Lucky, Private Feeling is also the dam of the multiple Grade II winner Kensei.

Private Feeling is also a half-sister to the granddam of champion Wait A While and a granddaughter of Grade I winner Sharp Belle.

In a year that has seen Munnings register five stakes winners, Shahama also becomes his 24th lifetime graded stakes winner with over 12% stakes performers.
