Smart Debut Winner By Idaho
Idaho Sun (4g Idaho – West Elite, by Westerner) shaped like a smart prospect when beating four point-to-point maiden winners in Wednesday’s bumper at Newton Abbot.
Harry Fry’s charge was not without support ahead of the two mile and one furlong contest and was held up at the back of the field by Bryan Carver. Making headway with over three furlongs left to race, he produced a challenge a furlong out and soon led. He kept on well to beat the favourite by a short head, the pair finishing three and a half lengths clear of the third.
Idaho Sun was bought by Kevin Ross at the Goffs Arkle Sale for €60,000 and carries the colours of Jeremy Gear. The first crop son of Idaho becomes the first winner bred by Thomas McAuliffe out of West Elite, who has a two-year-old filly by Idaho and a yearling colt by Crystal Ocean.
