Harjo (Yeats) Wins The 5YO Maiden At Portrush

Smart Weekend Winners For Yeats

Harjo (5g Yeats - Frankly Native, by Be My Native) shaped like a smart prospect when running out a seven length winner of Saturday’s five-year-old maiden at Portrush.

Patiently ridden by Ben Crawford for his brother Stuart, the Roy Wilson-owned bay led from the second last and soon drew clear. Bred by Raymond McDonnell, the son of Yeats is closely related to Grade 2 scorer Master Of The Hall (Saddlers’ Hall).

At Ascot the following day, the Paul Nicholls-trained Chavez (6g Yeats - Rock The Baby, by Waveney) landed the maiden hurdle in fine style under Harry Cobden.

The favourite made all of the running and went clear from the second last to score by seven and a half lengths. Owned by Malcolm Denmark and bred by Decland Phelan, he had made a winning debut in a bumper.
