Below The Radar (Getaway) Wins The Novices Hurdle At Uttoxeter

Son Of Getaway Extends Unbeaten Rules Record

Below The Radar (6g Getaway – Benfaithful, by Beneficial) made it three from three under rules with a smart performance in Saturday’s Novices’ Hurdle at Uttoxeter.

A close second in two point-to-points for Francesca Poste, the son of Getaway made a winning start for Paul Nicholls in a bumper and went on to deliver on his hurdle bow in January. The Hemmings Racing-owned bay faced some useful rivals on Saturday and was ridden prominently by Freddie Gingell on his drop back to two and a half miles. Pushed along from the second last, he led on the run-in and was ridden out to beat Grade 2 performer Don’t Rightly Know by two lengths.

Speaking after the race, the winning rider said, “Below The Radar is very tough and did it easily enough in the end. He's a versatile horse and has a good attitude.”

Bred by Shane McGuckin, Below The Radar completed the first leg of a double on the day for Getaway, as Gasmani (5g Getaway – Tasmani, by Turgeon) led home a 1-2 for Grange Stud sires in the bumper at Newcastle.

The David Dennis-trained bay ran out a clear winner of a Larkhill maiden in December and went on to finish fourth to the well-regarded Teeshan (Westerner) on his rules debut. Partnered by Richard Patrick on Saturday, he raced prominently throughout and led approaching the final furlong. Ridden when headed by Thomas Rainwater (Walk In The Park), he battled back to lead by a neck on the line, with the pair finishing nine lengths clear of the third.

Gasmani was bred by S Gorman and is a half-brother to stablemate Innisfree Lad (Yeats), himself a nine-time winner.
