Son Of Mahler Produces Smart Debut Performance

Tribal Glory (5g Mahler - Emily’s Princess, by Flemensfirth) shaped like a smart prospect when beating an experienced field on debut at Stradbally on Sunday.

Ian McCarthy’s charge was the sole newcomer in the field of ten and was ridden towards the back of the field by Luke Murphy. Making headway into third with five fences left to jump, he was ridden to challenge at the second last and kept on well to lead on the run-in, going on to score by four and a half lengths.

Tribal Glory was bred by Thomas Norris and is a full-brother to fellow debut winner Wicked Thoughts (Mahler), who sold for £135,000 last month.

Ian McCarthy has previously enjoyed success with Beeches Stud sire Mahler, having originally trained Cabhfuilfungi (7g Mahler - Maggie Andy, by Flemensfirth), who coincidentally gained a first win over hurdles at Southwell on Monday.

The bay finished a promising fourth on debut for McCarthy and is now trained by Gary Hanmer for CJ Tipton. Placed on his first two starts for the stable, he was sent off favourite for Monday’s maiden hurdle and travelled strongly throughout under Ryan Mania. Asserting at the second last, he was drew clear before the last and was eased down close home to win by two and a quarter lengths.

Cabhfuilfungi becomes the first winner bred by Gerard Quirk out of the Flemensfirth mare Maggie Andy.
