Son Of Yeats Battles For Bumper Win

A thrilling finish to Thursday’s bumper at Southwell saw Brief Ambition (5g Yeats - Kentucky Sky, by Cloudings) make a winning start for Fergal O’Brien.

Held up by Paddy Brennan, the bay began to make headway from over five furlongs out and led approaching the final furlong. Headed soon after, he battled back to lead in the shadow of the post, with the leading pair stretching 11 lengths clear of the third.

Owned by a partnership of Harry Redknapp, C Coley, D Porter and P Smith, Brief Ambition was bought by his trainer for £65,000 after winning a point-to-point maiden for Peter Flood. A half-brother to black-type hurdler Mystic Sky, the son of Yeats was bred by T Wood out of bumper winner Kentucky Sky.
