Precious Cargo (Yeats) Makes A Winning Start To His Hurdle Career At Kempton

Son Of Yeats Scores On Hurdle Debut

The Nicky Henderson-trained Precious Cargo (6g Yeats - Kilbarry Classic, by Classic Cliche) ran out a ready winner of the Novices’ Hurdle at Kempton on Monday.

An 11 length bumper winner last season, the bay was sent off joint-favourite for his hurdle debut over two miles. Ridden towards the back of the field by Nico de Boinville, the bay took a keen hold and improved to track the leaders before halfway. Leading from after the third last, Precious Cargo quickened from the final flight and stayed on well to beat fellow market leader and previous winner Extra Mag by three and a quarter lengths, with a further ten lengths back to the third horse.

The winning trainer later commented, “He's a great jumper and he'll be over fences next year.” Owned by Thomas Barr and bred by Con O’Keeffe, Precious Cargo sold for £35,000 at the Goffs UK Spring Sale. His half-brother Embittered (Fame And Glory) won his bumper debut last month for Joseph O’Brien.
