Spicy Meatball Clear Winner For Munnings

In a week that has seen Coolmore America-sired runners win big, Spicy Meatball (3g Munnings x Who’s In Love, by Not For Love) was the latest victor when winning impressively at Laurel Park on Friday.

The Patrick J. Magill-trained raced in second early on in a foggy six furlong race on dirt but as the field came back into view at the top of the stretch had a firm lead. As the field raced out of the fog, viewers could clearly see Spicy Meatball wasn’t going to be caught as he built up a 7 ½ length lead before hitting the wire.

Owned by David Carter, the gelding has finished first or second in seven of his 10 career starts, all coming in 2019.

Spicy Meatball is a half-brother to Listed placed Buff’s In Love and is one of two winners from three to race out of Who’s In Love. Who’s In Love is a half-sister to Listed winner Who’s In Town and Listed placed Campaign Vows and is a granddaughter of Grade II winner Who Did It And Run.

Value sire Munnings has had an amazing 2019 with 150 winners this year including 10 stakes winners and 23 stakes horses. His runners this year are led by Grade II winning juvenile Finite and Grade III winner Fancy Dress Party.
