Law Ella (Yeats) Wins The Maiden Hurdle At Downpatrick

Talented Yeats Mare Off The Mark Over Hurdles

Black-type performer Law Ella (6m Yeats - Brogarais, by Presenting) returned to winning ways in Sunday’s maiden hurdle at Downpatrick.

Gavin Cromwell’s representative impressed on debut last season, before chasing home Ashroe Diamond (Walk In The Park) in the Grade 2 Mares’ Bumper at Aintree. Thomas Ward’s homebred had since found one too good over hurdles and was sent off favourite to go one better under Keith Donoghue. Racing prominently throughout, she made headway to take second at the final flight and was shaken up to challenge turning for home. Soon in front, she ran on well to score by a comfortable four and a half lengths, as Smooth Player (Getaway) kept on in second.

“Law Ella can kick on from here hopefully,” Gavin Cromwell said after the race. “We're happy to get that done and she is a candidate now for something at Punchestown.”
