Window Shopping Newest Stakes Winner for Pharoah
Window Shopping (3f American Pharoah x Delightful Joy, by Tapit) made the most of her second stakes attempt on Saturday with a big performance in the Grade II Summertime Oaks at Santa Anita.
Racing over 1 1/16 miles on the Santa Anita dirt, the Richard Mandella trainee raced just over two lengths off the leaders in the compact field. It wasn’t until the field turned into the stretch that Window Shopping got serious about her job and started gunning for the lead.
It took until the final furlong for the filly to catch the leader but she was able to build her lead to 1 ¾ lengths as she flashed under the line.
“Perfect trip, he put her in a good spot, waited for a hole to open up and went for it and it worked. I was full of confidence, I knew she was going to win,” Mandella said.
Racing for Ramona and Perry Bass, the International Equities Holdings-bred has now won two of four starts with a third in the Grade II Santa Anita Oaks as well for over $200,000 in earnings.
Purchased for $700,000 as a Keeneland September yearling from Gainesway, Window Shopping is one of three winners from three runners out of Grade III winner Delightful Joy. That mare is a half-sister to Grade III winner Cali Star and stakes winner Seymourdini out of the Grade III winner and Grade I placed Graeme Six.
American Pharoah has the fourth most graded stakes winners on the General Sires list this year with 14 stakes performers and six stakes winners also putting him in the top 10 of all stallions.
