Yeats Mare Proves Class Above Rivals At Fairyhouse
Norwigi (6m Yeats - Nadiya De La Vega, by Lost World) built on earlier promise to run out a clear winner of the mares maiden hurdle at Fairyhouse on Monday.
Second on her sole start in a point-to-point, JP and Noreen McManus’s homebred mare finished third on her first start over hurdles last month. Sent off favourite on Monday, she led from the second flight and extended her advantage to seven lengths approaching the turn for home. Eased down on the run-in, Enda Bolger’s charge won by eight and a half lengths under Mark Walsh.
Speaking after the race, the winning rider said, “She went out, made the running and won handy. You couldn't ask for much more and you'd be disappointed if she didn't do that.”
There should be more to come from Norwigi over fences, as the daughter of Yeats is out of Grade 3 winning chaser Nadiya De La Vega.
