Canford Cliffs on top at Tatts

A colt from the first crop of brilliant miler Canford Cliffs proved the standout lot on the opening night of Tattersalls’ Craven Breeze-Up Sale on Wednesday when selling for 300,000gns to Charlie Gordon-Watson.

Out of the Alhaarth mare Khaizarana, the colt was offered from Paddy Twomey’s Athassel House Stud and  – on the back of a good breeze – he was soon showing a profit on his 65,000 euros yearling cost.

“I’m really excited by the stallion and pleased to have got a thoroughly nice horse who breezed well,” said Gordon-Watson. “He’s been bought for a new client in Hong Kong and I’ve done well buying from Paddy in the past.”

Canford Cliffs has his first runners this year and he was made 2/1 favourite by bookmaker Racebets to be leading first-season sire in 2015.
