Al Shaqab Racing’s newcomer Al Jazi (2f Canford Cliffs-Rainbow Crossing, by Cape Cross) was one of two first-crop winners for Canford Cliffs at Maisons-Laffitte on Sunday.
Gregory Benoist partnered the Skymarc Farm-bred filly, a €160,000 yearling, to win the six-furlong maiden by a length and a half for trainer Franois Rohaut.
“She is a filly who I have always liked and would have started earlier but had sore shins,” Rohaut told Jour de Galop, who awarded Al Jazi Rising Star status. “She has speed and could now go for the Listed Prix de la Vallee d’Auge at Deauville.”
Successful on the same card was Pitou (2f Canford Cliffs-La Suvera, by Choisir), bred by Ecurie Jarlan and winning for trainer Fabrice Chappet and owner Frank McNulty.
