Galileo’s Melbourne Cup Quest after Goodwood G3 win

Galileo’s son Quest For Peace (4c Galileo-Play Misty For Me, by Danehill Dancer) is set to bid to give the all-conquering Galileo a Melbourne Cup success following his Glorious Goodwood victory on Friday. The Luca Cumani-trained four-year-old, who is owned by O T I Racing, was given a perfect ride from the front by Kieren Fallon to  stay on well for pressure to beat Dandino a length and a quarter in the G3 Glorious Stakes and will now be aimed at the southern hemisphere’s most-famous race. “That puts him back on track for Melbourne,” said Cumani's wife Sara. "He rather lost his way at Ascot last time and in retrospect we probably shouldn't have run him on the soft ground, which was against him.” Fallon dictated a slowish pace perfectly on Quest For Peace, who was given a soft lead and could lope along well within himself, ears pricked, before his rider started to wind up the gallop down the  hill in the straight. "He's a bit better than the others and I got away with it," said Fallon. "You don't want to be doing too much early over a mile and a half here. You go uphill from the start, then a drop, then that long stretch up to the top bend. You don't want to go for home too soon from the front, because then you'll be there to be shot at. Nor do you want to leave it too late on a horse like this. Basically all he does is stay, although he did show a bit of toe today. He's quite classy. He ran a good race first time when he wasn't fit. At Ascot it was the ground but he also got interfered with. But he's bounced back, and done it well.”
