Prix Dollar success for Byword

Byword (5h, Peintre Celebre-Binche, by Woodman) continued his renaissance with a game short-head victory in the G2 Prix Dollar at Longchamp.

Khalid Abulla’s five-year-old, successful in the G1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot in 2010, had been kept fresh for an autumn campaign after easily taking a Chantilly G3 in August.

He showed the benefit of a break as he quickened well in the closing stages to get the better of Cirrus Des Aigles near the line.

Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager for winning owner Khalid Abdullah, told “Andre Fabre has given him plenty of time since he won at Chantilly and he felt that he would really like this ground.

“It’s good to see him back and I should think Hong Kong will be an option.”
