Smart debut winner for Canford Cliffs

Trainer David Barron predicted a bright future for the Canford Cliffs filly Lady Clair (2f Canford Cliffs-Queen Of Carthage, by Cape Cross) after she won impressively on her first racecourse start at Catterick on Wednesday.

A €55,000 purchase from the Arqana Breeze-Up Sale in May, she took the five-furlong maiden by two and a half lengths from more-experience rivals.

The Kilcarn Stud-bred filly holds an entry in the G2 Lowther Stakes at York and Barron told the Racing Post: “Lady Clair has worked well at home, she´s quick, but they’ve got to come here and do it, and she´s done that now. She´s a nice filly.”
