$320,000 Filly Leads Way for Practical Joke
Practical Joke continued the success he’d seen at the winter sales during Wednesday’s Fasig-Tipton Selected Yearling Showcase with Demi O’Byrne signing the ticket for a $320,000 filly.
Consigned by Darby Dan Farm, Hip 190 out of Lady Micaela was bred by Mike Anderson Racing. It was her second time through the sales ring with the filly purchased for $110,000 in November at Keeneland by Red Devil Bloodstock.
A half-sister to three-time winner Call Me Kayla, the filly is out of a half-sister to stakes placed Access This with that pair out of stakes winning High Speed Access.
A descendant of successful broodmare Battle Creek Girl, the filly’s third dam is Grade II winner Speed Dialer, the dam of stakes winner Storm Alert and granddam of Grade III winner Utopian.
Practical Joke saw seven of his yearlings find new owners during Wednesday’s session for an average of $174,286 and a median of $165,000. Those offerings included five yearlings sold for $100,000 or more led by two $300,000+ yearlings.
A three-time Grade 1 winner by emerging sire-of-sires Into Mischief, Practical Joke hit the ground running with his first foals. His first weanlings averaged $102,028 last winter, led by a $320,000 colt.
