$330,000 Colt Lights Way for Mendelssohn in Session 5

The fourth highest freshman sire by average with two or more sold through five session of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale, Mendelssohn saw his session five yearlings sell for up to $330,000 on Saturday.

Purchased by Sweetwater Trading as agent and Rockingham Ranch from the Baccari Bloodstock consignment, the colt is a half-brother to multiple stakes-placed Farolero. The Jumping Jack Racing-bred colt’s dam Beautiful Girl is a granddaughter of stakes winner Puzzled Look, whose runners include the multiple Group III-placed Temple Place.

Puzzled Look is also the third dam of stakes winner Fabulanski and Grade III-placed Street Allure with 10 stakes performers overall named on this colt’s page.

Mike Ryan was the buyer of a $260,000 Mendelssohn colt from the Glen Hill Farm consignment early in the session. The colt is the second out of Lady Byng, a half-sister to Grade II winner Old Time Hockey.

This colt is bred 3 x 4 to Grade I winner Likeable Style, who is also the granddam of Mendelssohn’s Grade I winning sire Scat Daddy. In addition to producing the colt’s stakes winning granddam Grat, Likeable Style is the dam of stakes-placed Special Times.

Her daughter Love Style also produced Grade III winner and Grade I-placed Antipathy and stakes winners Grand Daddy and Love Stuck in addition to the dam of stakes winner Classic Fit.

Mendelssohn’s 34 sold this sale are averaging $218,824 with a median of $165,000. Buyers have paid up to $900,000 for his yearlings at the Keeneland September Sale with others selling for $750,000, $510,000, $400,000, etc.
