Mendelssohn Paddock Shot

$400,000 Filly for Mendelssohn

The first day of the OBS Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds on Tuesday saw Mendelssohn get his first big juvenile of the week when a filly out of Cana sold for $400,000 to Woodslane Farm.

Bred by Spendthrift Farm out of Fastnet Rock’s Group III-placed Australian-bred daughter and consigned this trip through the ring by Ocala Stud, the filly’s third dam is the dam of Group I winner and multiple Group I-placed Wanted and Group II winner and Group I-placed Shrapnel. Cana herself is a half-sister to stakes winner Interspersed and four other winners.

Mendelssohn also saw Dennis O’Neill snap up a colt out of Banker’s Buy for $280,00 from Woodford Thoroughbreds. The dam of three winners from four to race, Banker’s Buy is also a half-sister to the granddam of champion Mitole and Grade I winner Hot Rod Charlie among others.

Purple blooded Mendelssohn was a Grade I winner on turf and record-breaker on dirt and has seen his first juveniles sell for up to $525,000 this 2-year-old sale season.
