$410,000 Filly Kicks off Justify’s Keeneland January

Triple Crown winner Justify saw 2-year-old daughter Justly bring the fourth highest price of the opening session of the Keeneland January Sale on Tuesday when selling to Three Chimneys for $410,000.

Co-bred by her buyer and consignor Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, the 2-year-old is out of the Champion 2-Year-Old Filly Take Charge Brandi. A dual Grade I winner herself, Take Charge Brandi also became a stakes producer at the beginning of the year when Courvoisier won the Listed Jerome Stakes to join the Triple Crown trail.

Take Charge Brandi is a half-sister to three-time Grade I winner Omaha Beach and Grade I-placed Courage Under Fire. Her producing talent comes honestly as a granddaughter of multiple Grade I winner Take Charge Lady, who is also a broodmare of the Year. Take Charge Lady is the dam of Champion 3-Year-Old Will Take Charge, Grade I winner Take Charge Indy and American Pharoah’s multiple graded stakes winner As Time Goes By.

As Time Goes By added another stakes win to her resume on January 2 when dominating the Grade III La Canada Stakes by 13 ½ lengths.

Take Charge Brandi visited Uncle Mo last year.

Justify also saw his yearling filly out of Australia’s San Saria sell for $300,000 as the most expensive yearling filly of the session. Consigned by Sequel New York as agent, the filly was snapped up by Fish Stables.

She is a granddaughter of Group III winner San Sicharia, who is one of four stakes winners and six stakes performers out of Spinning World daughter Spinamix.

Justify had three sold during the first day of the sale for an average of $295,000 and median of $300,000. He ranks highest by gross and average for three or more sold with Munnings sitting right behind him by gross.
