$550,000 Mare for Mendelssohn
Mendelssohn was in the spotlight on Monday when a mare in foal to the Grade I winner fetched $550,000 at the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.
Purchased by Gainesway Farm, Hard Cloth was also offered through their consignment for the Estate of Helen K. Groves. The 8-year-old is the dam of Grade II winner and Grade I-placed Emmanuel from her two foals to race and had a Munnings filly this year.
Out of Giant’s Causeway’s Grade III-placed Trensa, Hard Cloth is also a half-sister to multiple Grade I winner Hawkbill, and Grade I winner Free Drop Billy. Trensa is out of the Grade I winner Serape, who has two stakes performers among her own foals.
Mendelssohn sits fifth on the freshman sire list by stakes performers and sixth by earnings this year with his runners led by the Grade II winning Delight.
