$650,000 Mare for Practical Joke at Keeneland January
Practical Joke was the sire of the fifth most expensive horse of the 2024 Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale when Steve Young purchased the filly from Bluewater Sales.
Purchased on behalf of Ramona Bass for $650,000, the Grade I-placed Kaling was an impressive Saratoga debut winner for Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners. One race later, she finished third in the Grade I Spinaway Stakes.
A $220,000 yearling purchase by her racing owners, Kaling is out of an Indian Charlie half-sister to the multiple graded stakes placed Here I go. Here I go produced Grade I winner Summerly and stakes placed Let ‘Em Go with multiple daughters producing at least one stakes performer. Another one of her dam’s half-sisters is the dam of two other stakes placed runners.
Practical Joke also saw M & M Bloodstock purchase Practical Folks for $260,000.
An unraced racing or broodmare prospect, the juvenile filly consigned by Taylor Made is out of champion Folklore. Folklore is the granddam of Japanese Triple Crown winner Contrail and a half-sister to the dam of dual champion Essential Quality and Uncle Mo’s stakes winning Famed.
