Ah Jeez Latest Winner for Mendelssohn
The winners kept coming for Mendelssohn on Friday evening when Ah Jeez (2c Mendelssohn x Poetic, by Violence) won at Del Mar for Mark Davis and Doug O’Neill.
Making his second career start when going five furlongs on the turf, the colt shadowed the two leaders early on before sent wide on the turn to make his move. By the time he hit the stretch, he was dueling with the front two before pulling away with a furlong left.
There were no matches for him in the field with Ah Jeez winning by 3 ¼ lengths.
Bred by Machmer Hall, Ah Jeez is the first foal out of a winning half-sister to the stakes winning Into Trouble. His second, third, and fourth dams are all stakes performers with both his second and third winning at the stakes level and producing stakes winners. Each of his first five dams with foals three and older have produced at least one stakes winner as well.
Mendelssohn is the sire of 10 winners and one stakes performer – the third most winners of any freshman sire this year with six of those coming in August.
