Aisha R N Fourth Winner of Weekend for Mendelssohn
It was a big weekend for Mendelssohn when the second-crop sire saw four runners visit the winner’s circle in two days, topped off by Aisha R N (3f Mendelssohn x Gemini R N, by Mineshaft) winning on Sunday afternoon.
Racing in a Sam Houston Maiden Special Weight for Stonestreet and Steve Asmussen, Aisha R N took the lead immediately out of the gate in the six furlong affair and never looked back. She handled the pressure other horses threw at her like a professional before pulling away as they hit the stretch.
Not asked for a lot by jockey Stewart Elliott, Aisha R N romped to a 4 ¾ length victory with the third placed horse nearly seven lengths behind at the end.
Bred in Virginia by Knockgriffin Farm, Aisha R N is a half-sister to the dam of stakes winner Ancient Spirit and out off a three-quarter sister to Grade II winner Shaniko.
They are out of the Grade II winning Sapphire N’ Silk, whose own siblings include Grade III winner Golden Itiz and Silk n’ Sapphire – the dam of Grade I Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf winning Shared Account, who went on to produce Grade I Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf winner Sharing.
Mendelssohn’s other weekend winners included the stakes winning Opus Forty Two and a Japanese debut winner in addition to an Aqueduct maiden winner. The stallion is now at 28 winners from his first crop, including three stakes winners.
