Alla Breve Mendelssohn Wins The Jameela Stakes

Alla Breve Newest Stakes Winner for Mendelssohn

Mendelssohn filly Alla Breve (4f Mendelssohn x Split It, by Curlin) made her stakes debut a winning one on Sunday with a victory in the Jameela Stakes at Laurel Park.

Breaking from one of the wider positions in the six furlong turf race, she almost immediately dropped to the back to take up duties as one of the back markers with just one horse beat. Taking up a spot on the rail, the filly had plenty of work to do around the turn but was up for it, switching to the outside for clear running room.

It took Alla Breve nearly the entire stretch to get the lead, but she got up just in time to win by a head in a three-way photo.

Trained by Michael Matz for Runnymoore Racing, this is the fourth victory in 10 starts for the 4-year-old and the second straight victory.

A $160,000 yearling, the Sycamore Hall Thoroughbreds-bred filly is out of the multiple winning mare Split It. That Curlin daughter is a half-sister to Grade III winner Shared Property and multiple stakes winner Whiskey Romeo alongside two other stakes producers out of multiple stakes winner Yoursmineours.

This is also the family of Grade II winners Land Over Sea and War Story with Grade I winner and champion Epitome under her fourth dam.

Split It also had a Mendelssohn colt in 2023.

Mendelssohn’s 94 winners this year is best of all North American and European third crop sires with four stakes winners and nine stakes performers in 2024 as well.
