American Admiral Newest American Pharoah Stakes Winner
American Admiral (6g American Pharoah x Escampette, by Smart Strike) became his sire’s newest stakes winner on Saturday with a victory in the Mt. Diablo Stakes.
Shipping to Pleasanton for the 1 1/16-mile dirt stakes race, the gelding was happy to give the leader a few lengths on him as he sat in third until the far turn. Looming large from there, he closed in on the lead at the top of the stretch and entered a battle.
As they approached the final sixteenth, American Admiral took the lead and had half a length on the other runner by the line.
Trained by Tim Yakteen for Donnie Crevier, it is the 16th top three finish in 23 starts for the gelding, who has $304,020 in earnings.
Bred by Dixiana Farms, American Admiral is one of four winners out of Encampette. That mare is a granddaughter of Grade II winner Aquilegia, whose descendants include dual Grade I winner Bayern and Grade II winners Rabbit Run and Rainha Da Bateria.
American Admiral is one of 12 stakes winners and 22 stakes performers for American Pharoah in 2024 with his stakes winners putting him sixth among all North American sires alongside Twirling Candy, Curlin, and Arrogate.
