Apropos 25th Winner for Mendelssohn
Apropos (2f Mendelssohn x Doritza, by Mineshaft) is the newest winner for Mendelssohn after winning a Gulfstream Park Maiden Special Weight on Sunday.
Trained by James Toner, the filly tracked the pace in the six furlong dirt race, positioning herself just a few lengths off Mo Town’s pacesetting Ro Town. A hole opened for Apropos around the turn and she quickly went after the lead as they turned into the stretch.
She took over soon after to pull away and win by 4 ½ lengths with the third placed runner nearly seven lengths behind her at the line.
A $185,000 purchase by co-owner Rebecca Galbraith from Machmer Hall Sales, Apropos is also raced by Burning Daylight Farms and was bred by Robert Slack.
The filly is the first foal for two-time winner Doritza, a daughter of stakes winner and Grade I third Pinch Pie. That mare is also the granddam of stakes winner Miss Peach. This is also the extended family of Grade I Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Volponi.
Doritza also had a yearling full sister to Apropos last year.
Mendelssohn is now the sire of 25 winners – fourth best among all freshmen sires – with six stakes performers and one graded stakes winner.
