Belt Parkway Another Winner for Mendelssohn

The red-hot Mendelssohn scored a sixth winner on Wednesday when Belt Parkway (2c Mendelssohn x Canaryinacage, by Mineshaft) won on debut in a Parx Maiden Special Weight.

Sent over 5 ½ furlongs on the dirt for his first outing by trainer Uriah St. Lewis, Belt Parkway was hustled out of the gate and quickly opened up a few lengths on the field. His resolve was tested in the stretch when another horse tried to run him down but he kept running until the end to win by a nose. The rest of the field was 5 ¾ lengths behind.

A $160,000 Fasig-Tipton New York-Bred Sale yearling from the Summerfield consignment, Belt Parkway is owned by Trin-Brook Stables and was bred by Mina Equivest.

The colt is a half-brother to the stakes winning Sing Dixie Sing, who also produced the stakes winner Quick Tempo and the dam of stakes-placed Motown Mischief after her racing career. Belt Parkway is also a grandson of multiple graded stakes winner Megan’s Bluff, who produced Grade III winner Elusive Bluff.

Mendelssohn has been on an absolute tear up the First Crop Sire ranks in the last week with four winners in that one-week span. His six winners tie him for third among all freshmen stallions.
