Best Snatches $1.6 Million Munnings Filly at OBS

A Munnings filly was the most expensive filly of the OBS Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds In Training and topped all horses of the final session on Friday when OXO Equine went to $1.6 million to acquire her.

The ticket was signed by agent Christina Jelm, who was acting on Larry Best’s behalf.

Bred by Cantrell Family Partnerships, the filly had sold for $250,000 at the Keeneland September Sale to Eddie Woods’ Quarter Pole Enterprises and that is who consigned her here. She is out of the six-time stakes winner Tensas Harbor, who is one of four stakes performers alongside Harbor Pilot, Veronica’s Lake, and Tensas Salt.

“Munnings has obviously been very good to me over the years,” Woods told Thoroughbred Daily News. “He is a great stallion and has been appreciated in recent years. That filly was amazing. She's a wonderful filly. She's been a class act from day one, from the first time I looked at her in Lexington at Woodford. I've been lucky buying off Woodford, too. It's been a pretty good journey.”

Woods and Munnings have had a good run of top fillies in and out of the sales ring in recent years. Woods also sold Munnings’ Grade 1 winning Eda for $550,000 and his undefeated Kentucky Oaks contender Shahama for $425,000.

It was a big week for Munnings on both sides of the Atlantic with the stallion also having the second most expensive of the Goffs UK Breeze Up Sale and a $355,000 colt at OBS.

On the track this year he’s had seven stakes winners and 13 stakes performers, led by the aforementioned Wood graduates Shahama and Eda.
