Cast Member Stays Undefeated In Soviet Problem

Munnings’ Cast Member (2f Munnings x Be My Baby, by Artie Schiller) stayed undefeated on Sunday with a victory in the Soviet Problem Stakes at Los Alamitos.

George Krikorian’s homebred was coming into the race off a stakes win last out and proved just as ready to run this time going a mile on the dirt. Racing a few lengths off the leader with just one horse beaten for much of the race, Cast Member was happy to wait until her jockey asked her to move with that coming in the turn.

Circling the field coming into the stretch, she confronted the leader with a furlong and a half left to run and took over soon after. Cast Member pulled away to a 1 ¼ length victory with the third placed runner 6 ¼ lengths behind the winner in the end.

Trained by Tim Yakteen, Cast Member is now the winner of all three of her races.

Cast Member is the first foal out of a winning half-sister to Grade II winner Kitten’s Roar and hails from the family of Grade II winner Army Wife.

It’s been a successful weekend for Munnings 2-year-olds with Late September also earning a second stakes victory on Saturday.
