Cupid’s A.P.’s Secret Catches Eye at Gulfstream
A.P.’s Secret (3c Cupid x Afleet Honey, by Uncle Mo) made it clear he’s more than a barn secret these days when the colt won his second race in three starts.
Racing over a mile on the Gulfstream Park dirt in an Allowance Optional Claiming race, A.P.’s Secret was behind another horse as the field raced down the stretch before sticking his head in front after the first quarter.
Though he had a horse beside him throughout the run, the colt stayed relaxed and easily clicked into another gear down the stretch. Only second choice runner Kitten Mischief was within 8 ½ lengths of the winner at the line with that one 1 ¼ lengths back.
Trained by Saffie Joseph Jr. for Gentry Farms, A.P.’s Secret has never been worse than second in three career starts with all three starts coming at Gulfstream. He was a $150,000 OBS April 2-Year-Old purchase by his owner from De Meric Sales after bringing $95,000 as a yearling.
Bred by Tami Bobo, A.P.’s Secret is a half-sister to stakes-placed Flying Aletha and out of Uncle Mo’s winning daughter Afleet Honey. That mare is out of the multiple stakes winner and Grade II-placed Afleet Deceit.
One of the top freshmen in multiple categories last year, Cupid has 25 winners led by Grade III winner God of Love.
