Cupid’s Heart Continues Top October for Cupid
Bruce Levine had Cupid’s Heart (2f Cupid x Bedside Posse, by Posse) ready to run on Saturday for her Maiden Special Weight debut at Belmont Park with the filly winning by an easy 4 ¼ lengths.
Her greenness showed early in the six furlong dirt race when she hesitated coming out of the gate and started last. She immediately showed that this wouldn’t just be an educational trip as she flew past the other back markers to run just a few lengths behind the leaders going into the turn.
Left to do as she pleased by Javier Castellano in the early part of the race, she picked it up again when Castellano started urging her on in the stretch.
She only felt a few taps of the whip to keep her focused down the stretch as she easily galloped away from the field with the third placed runner over seven lengths behind her.
Raced by Flying P Stables, the gray filly was bred in New York by Sugar Maple Farm.
Her dam Bedside Posse is a half-sister to the Grade II winner Skyway and the stakes winner Ava K among her 10 winning siblings. Ava K herself also has an Ashford-sired juvenile with Ava K’s Boy a winner for Cupid’s fellow freshman studmate Classic Empire.
Bedside Posse had a Munnings colt this year and visited Lookin At Lucky after she dropped that foal.
Cupid now sits at 11 winners from his first crop with two of those being stakes winners for three stakes performers overall – including a Grade II-placed filly.
