Cupid’s Sterling Silver Stays Undefeated In Franklin Square
Cupid’s already stellar start to 2022 was made even better on Saturday when his daughter Sterling Silver won the Franklin Square Stakes at Aqueduct.
A winner last out on debut in November, Sterling Silver was sent straight to stakes company by trainer Tom Albertrani and proved up to the task in the 6 1/2 furlong race. She was hustled up to race just behind the second flight of horses and when it was time to get serious, rallied up the rail around the turn to sit just behind the long time pacemaker.
That foe had nothing left for Sterling Silver, who galloped by in the final furlong and was let to go home easy as she pleased by 2 ¼ lengths.
It was the second victory in two starts for the gray daughter of Cupid, who is raced by Mark Anderson and was bred in New York by Mallory and Karen Mort.
The filly is one of two winners from three to race out of Sheet Humor, who is a daughter of the Grade III winner and Grade I fourth Sheets. Sheets herself is out of a stakes-placed half-sister to Grade I third Lady Hoolihan.
Cupid’s seven winners in 2022 is the best of any second crop sire and his three career stakes winners puts him fifth best among all second crop stallions.
