Cupid’s The Sky Is Falling Continues Stakes Domination
The Sky Is Falling (2f Cupid x Miss Henny Penny, by Half Ours) continued her Charles Town domination on Saturday night with a second straight stakes win in the Eleanor Casey Memorial Stakes.
The winner of three of her four career starts, Cupid’s dark bay daughter was racing over seven furlongs for the first time – a distance she had no problem handling.
Breaking from the spot closest to the rail, The Sky Is Falling was hustled out of the gate to sit in third as another horse shot to open up multiple lengths on the field. Fast fractions didn’t bother The Sky Is Falling, who made her move as the field entered the final three furlongs.
She circled the two horses in front of her to see the lead just a few strides into the stretch and pulled away to win by two lengths in the slop as a heavy favorite.
The Sky Is Falling is one of two stakes winners for Grade I winner Cupid and was bred by Catherine Jennings and Scott Mallory.
Trained by Jeff Runco for David Raim, The Sky Is Falling is one of two stakes winners for stakes-placed Miss Henny Penny alongside dual stakes winner Door Buster.
Miss Henny Penny has seen all of her foals visit the winner’s circle with both Door Buster and The Sky Is Falling earning their stakes victories this year.
Cupid scored two winners on Saturday with Sassy Emma also winning on debut.
