Eda (Munnings) winning the Des Arnaz Stakes at Del Mar

Eda Impresses Again in Desi Arnaz

Munnings’ exciting juvenile filly Eda (2f Munnings x Show Me, by Lemon Drop Kid) added a second straight stakes win to her record when she dominated the Listed Desi Arnaz Stakes at Del Mar.

Racing over 6 ½ furlongs on the dirt, Eda kept the pressure on stablemate Under The Stars early on as she let that one set the pace. With a little over a quarter to go, Eda ended the suspense when taking the lead.

Tonito’s attempted to go with her early in the stretch but it was a futile mission as the Munnings filly pulled away by 4 ¼ lengths at the line.

Bred by Nathan McCauley and trained by Bob Baffert for Baoma Corp., Eda is the winner of three of her five starts with a second in the Grade II Sorrento Stakes to go along with her two stakes victories.

“She broke well and had good speed,” said jockey Flavien Prat. When we turned for home and a horse came up outside us, I shook her up. Then she responded with a good kick.”

Baffert indicated Grade I company is next for the filly with the Grade I Starlet Stakes in early December on her schedule.

The filly was a $240,000 yearling purchase by Quarter Pole Enterprises who turned into a $550,000 OBS March 2-Year-Old when bought by Donato Lanni from Eddie Woods.

The first foal out of the winning mare Show Me, who is a half-sister to Grade III winner Aegean and stakes winner Light Bringer.

Show Me returned to Munnings in 2022 and was sold carrying that foal for $535,000 at last week’s Fasig-Tipton November Sale.

Eda is one of 18 stakes winners for Munnings, who sits behind only Into Mischief by number of stakes winners in 2021 with his 37 stakes performers third among all stallions.
