Eda Wins Fourth Straight Stakes in G3 Santa Ysabel
Munnings’ Grade I winning daughter Eda (3f Munnings x Show Me, by Lemon Drop Kid) made her 3-year-old debut a winning one with a victory in the Grade III Santa Ysabel Stakes at Santa Anita.
Racing over 1 1/16 miles on the dirt, the Baoma Corporation-owned filly was among the first out of the gate and she bolted to the lead to take control by the time the field hit the first turn. Eda was closely attended but galloped comfortably with her ears up down the backstretch.
Eda was asked pick up the pace as they passed the quarter mile pole and picked up the pace to start open a few lengths on the field. The Coolmore partners’ Under The Stars came running late but wasn’t able to get up in time, finishing half a length behind Eda as that one secured her fourth straight stakes victory.
Purchased by Donato Lanni for $550,000 last year as a 2-year-old from Eddie Woods, Eda was originally sold for $240,000 to Quarter Pool Enterprises as a yearling by Paramount Sales for breeder Nathan McCauley.
Eda is the first foal out of the winning Lemon Drop Kid mare Show Me, a half-sister to Grade III winner Aegean and stakes winner Light Bringer. Show Me sold for $535,000 at last year’s Fasig-Tipton November Sale while carrying a full sibling to Eda.
Eda gave Munnings his sixth stakes winner of the year, the second best of any North American stallion behind only Into Mischief with seven. Munnings also has eight stakes performers in 2022 to put him among the leading North American sires in all categories.
