Mendelssohn At Stables

Eighteen Represent Mendelssohn at Fasig-Tipton October

The regally-bred Grade I winner Mendelssohn has been a popular first crop sire at this year’s yearling sales and that continues next week when 18 yearlings are set to go through the ring at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October Yearlings Sale.

His first offering comes 32 hips in when a bay colt consigned by Brandywine Farm graces the pavilion. The colt is out of Lookin At Lucky’s stakes winner and Grade I-placed Maybellene, who herself is out of a Giant’s Causeway half-sister to Group III winner Rossini and leading sire Elusive Quality. The page also includes champion Gold And Ivory, Group I winner Heart of Darkness, and Grand Couturier among others.

Gainesway sends Hip 187 through the ring, a half-brother to stakes winner and Grade I-placed A Lot and stakes-placed Chairman Crooks. Their dam is the Grade I-placed Overly Tempting, who herself is a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Tempting Date. The family also includes Grade III winner Gloryzapper and stakes winner Coy Cat among others.

Hip 545 from Taylor Made Sales is the half-brother to five winners from five to race but even more eye catching is that two of his siblings have Grade I form. He is a half-brother to Grade I Arkansas Derby winner Super Stock and the Grade I-placed Boujie Girl. The Grade I form runs strong throughout the family with his seven-time winning dam a half-sister to the dam of Grade I winner Heir Kitty with Puerto Rico Triple Crown winner Estrellero under the colt’s third dam.

A great-grandson of Grade II winner Fleet Lady is Hip 588 consigned by Mulholland Springs for Spendthrift Farm. That colt is the second foal out of the winning Elusive Quality mare Szolnok, who is a half-sister to multiple Grade I-placed Solomini and eight-time winner Baratti. Their dam Surf Song is a half-sister to dual Grade I winner Midshipman and the Grade II winning dam of multiple Grade I winner Frosted among the many stakes winners and stakes-placed runners under Fleet Lady. The page also received an update the Saturday before the sale when Caramel Swirl won the Grade II Raven Run Stakes. That 3-year-old filly is another great-granddaughter of Fleet Lady.

Mendelssohn’s daughter Crescendo Molto sells through Eaton Sales as Hip 1054 as one of the last offerings for her sire at this sale. Crescendo Molto is a half-sister to Grade II winner and multiple Grade I-paced Toast of New York and five other winners from nine to race. Unplaced herself, Crescendo Molto’s dam Claire Marine was a multiple Grade I winner in the United States and multiple graded stakes-placed in France.

Peter Blum Thoroughbreds breeding program sends Hip 1126 to the sale through Bridie Harrison’s consignment. The colt named Double Feature is a half-brother to stakes winner and Grade I-placed Crystal Ball and multiple stakes-placed Escapade among his four winning siblings. The colt’s dam Deju Vu is a half-sister to the Grade I winner Madcap Escapade, who also produced Grade I winner Mi Sueno with Deju Vu’s other siblings including Grade I winner Dubai Escapade and stakes winner Real Estate.
