Felix The Scat Continues Big Week for Mendelssohn

It was a third winner in three different countries in a 24-hour period for Mendelssohn on Saturday when Felix The Scat (2c Mendelssohn x Miss Pocket Rocket, by Smart Missile) broke his maiden at Doomben in Australia.

Winning a trial four days before, Felix The Scat was stepping up to just under seven furlongs for the first time in his career and showed he loved the added distance.

He raced in second-last for much of the race with over five lengths and nearly a whole field between him and the leader but his rail spot provided perfect access to the front once he started to make his move. As the field entered the final quarter, he switched outside to fly up the outside and easily take the lead.

With just under a furlong left to race, he started his romp away from his rivals for a nearly 4 ¼ length victory.

Trained by Peter and Will Hulbert for owner-breeder Ms D Cooper, Felix The Scat is from the family of the Grade I Melbourne Cup winning Vow and Declare and fellow Grade I winners Hauraki and Kidnapped.

Mendelssohn is the sire of six winners in the last week alone in addition to Miracle finishing a close second in the Grade III Rachel Alexandra Stakes last Saturday.
