Majestic Venezuela (Mendelssohn) Wins The Miss Gracie

Majestic Venezuela New Stakes Winner for Mendelssohn

One day after recording a Grade I winner, Mendelssohn registered a new stakes winner when Majestic Venezuela (3f Mendelssohn x Downtown Diva, by Giant’s Causeway) won the Miss Gracie Stakes.

Second last out in the Martha Washington Stakes, Majestic Venezuela was happy to sit just off the leader in this one-mile turf race as that one set an easy pace. Racing near the rail early, she was moved a few paths out at the quarter pole and raced toward the lead. Kicking into full gear in the stretch, she passed those in front of her approaching the sixteenth pole to show why she was the favorite.

The 1 ¼ length win was her third career victory with Majestic Venezuela never finishing off the board.

Trained by Victor Barboza Jr. as a homebred for Orlyana Farm, Majestic Venezuela is a half-sister to the Grade III winning Venezuelan Hug out of Giant’s Causeway mare Downtown Diva. That mare is a half-sister to the multiple stakes winner Winter out of Grade I third Down.

Mendelssohn is the sire of six Northern Hemisphere-foaled stakes winners this year, putting him second among all third crop sires behind only rising superstar sire Justify.
