Fifteen On Offer For Practical Joke at Fasig-Tipton Midlantic

The juvenile sales season moves to Maryland on May 17 and 18 for the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale, where Practical Joke sends out 15 members of his first crop. It was a successful Under Tack show for the riple Grade I winner, who saw three breeze just one tick off the bullet.

The first of that trio to go through the ring is Hip 292, a colt out of Abundanceofcaution. Bred by Machmer Hall and Carrie and Craig Brogden, Abundanceofcaution’s 2-year-old was a $150,000 Keeneland September yearling purchase by Bruno de Berdt.

De Berdt sends this colt through the ring in the Scanlon Training and Sales consignment early in Tuesday’s session. Born March 12, the :10.1 breezer is out of a half-sister to Grade III winner Strict Compliance and stakes winner Tiree. This is also the family of multiple Grade I winner General Quarters and Grade II winners Unitarian and A Shin Top.

Hip 292 is joined in the :10.1 club by a filly out of Amazing Littlelady. Consigned by Paul Sharp, Hip 305 was bred by the same connections as Hip 292 and is coming into the ring with an update. The filly’s dam Amazing Littlelady saw her first foal to race add updated earnings to his record and her 3-year-old has made his first two starts after the catalog was released. Amazing Littlelady is out of stakes winner Amazing Buy, who is a half-sister to Canadian champion Alpha Bettor.

The last of Practical Joke’s :10.1 juveniles is one of the last to go through the ring overall – Hip 559. Consigned by Robert Brewer as agent, the filly out of Lemon Splash was bred by Rowland Hancock. She is a half-sister to stakes winner Snow Man, who has also placed since the catalog was released with the filly’s 3-year-old half-sister also seeing updated stats.

Lemon Splash is a half-sister to multiple graded stakes winner and Grade I-placed Falling Sky, with the pair out of the stakes-placed Sea Dragoness. That mare is one of three stakes horses for her own dam. Out of a Lemon Drop Kid mare, Hip 559 is bred similarly to Into Mischief’s Grade II winner Miss Mischief and stakes winner Doc Boy among his eight winners from nine to race out of Lemon Drop Kid daughters.

Practical Joke’s only horse to breeze a quarter breezed just two ticks off the bullet with Hip 124 stopping the clock in :21.4.

Consigned by Hartley/de Renzo, the $200,000 Keeneland September yearling is out of a half-sister to champion Falbrav. Bred by Sequel Stallions New York and NYP Bloodstock in New York, the filly’s Sadler’s Wells dam QueenoftheNight is the dam of three winners. QueenoftheNight is also a half-sister to stakes-placed Fattsota with multiple sisters producing stakes winners or dams of stakes winners.

Breezing in :10.2 is a Tom McCrocklin-offered colt out of Poppy’s Baby Girl. Bred by Murray Stroud and Endeavor Farm, he is a half-brother to Canadian champion Youcan’tcatchme and the stakes place duo of Gran Cherry and Winning Desire. Their dam is a half-sister to the stakes placed Storm Dixie, who is the dam of four time Grade I winner Princess of Sylmar and stakes-placed Biblical. In all, three of Poppy’s Baby Girl’s sisters have produced stakes horses with her half-brother Rhythm Band a Group III winner himself.

Other Practical Joke 2-year-olds on offer include Hip 361, a granddaughter of Grade I winner River’s Prayer from Wavertree Stables; Hip 314 from Niall Brennan Stables, out of a half to dual Grade I winner Harmonious; Bobby Dodd-offered Hip 335 out of a half-sister to three stakes horses, led by Grade I winner Funny Moon; and Hip 569 offered by Classic Bloodstock, out of a full sister to the dam of Grade I winner In Lingerie.

The sale starts at 11 a.m. ET on both Monday and Tuesday with Hip 27 Practical Joke’s first through the ring on Monday and Hip 292 his first on Tuesday.
